No buyout clause for Obafemi

24.04.2008

IN a bid to keep Nigerian international, Obafemi Martins at St James’ Park for another four years, there will be no buyout clause included in the striker’s new contract with Newcastle United.

A buyout clause was included in the Super Eagles striker’s current contract he signed when join the Magpies from Italian side Inter Milan two years ago he moved from Inter Milan two years ago. According to the clause, Obafemi would be allowed to go if any club bid £11 million for him.

The Nigerian forward’s agent, Chris Nathaniel, believes that if a couple of small points in his new deal can be clarified, he is ready to sign a new four-year deal that could be worth up to £90,000-a-week.

“Oba has been treated so well,” the agent said. “There are just a couple of things to sort out.”
