EFCC, a clawless eagle
Some days ago, the
Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials in Delta State said a man standing trial but now on bail and who is supposedly in India for medical attention was found in the country.
The big man, accor-ding to the national dailies, was having a swell time with friends and hangers on when EFCC officials swooped on him but the big man’s body guards would not let their master’s arrest take place.
In the process, some staff of the anti- graft agency got wounded. The big man’s lawyer claimed his client was in faraway India undergoing treat-ment, EFCC officials said the big man was breathing air in the country, that its officials saw the man and they were even beaten in the process of trying to arrest him.
I wonder whose tale to believe? Isn’t EFCC emblem, an eagle, a bird with sharp curved beak and claws?
Couldn’t the officials have arrested the big man’s look – alike for subsequent investigations? The eagle dies in the bid to get its prey.
Another prey, the so-called weaker vessel, a former president’s daughter, a senator, chairman of the senate committee on health, who soiled her hands along others was said to have dared the EFCC to arrest her few days ago.
EFCC and many of her colleagues claim her whereabouts is unknown. What a subtle way of protecting the woman!
Who says some people are not above the law and have privileges on issues that have to deal with the rule of law and the courts?
If EFCC means what it claims, it should declare the two suspects on the pages of all national dailies wanted with their pictures and price tag.
