ENL loses N500m in dockworkers’ riot

Property and office equipment vandalised or destroyed following the killing of two dock-workers by the crane of a ship discharging at the ENL Terminal at the Lagos Ports Complex, Apapa, has been put at over N500 million.

ENL Chairman, Prin-ce A.O Haastrup, dis-closed this, even as the Director General of the Nigerian Martine Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Shamsu-deen Ade Dosunmu, formally announced the detention of the ship, MV Green Reefers Majestic.

Thanking God that the life of his wife, Princess Vicky Haastrup, was spared, Prince Haastrup explained that the attack on his organisation was so thorough “that it totally wiped out the server room, the newly developed computer software and vital facilities put in place.

“But for God, they would have turned me into a widower by now. She was yet to get to her office that morning because there was need for her to stay back and brief me on certain issues, in respect of business activities at the terminal,” Haastrup told the Nigerian Tribune.

He said the ship which crane caused the accident did not belong to ENL, neither was the accident inspired by his organisation, lamenting that ENL had been made to bear the full brunt of the accident.
