Police search for killers of ex-perm sec in Oyo

The police in Oyo State are yet to find the killers of a former permanent secretary, Chief Demola Oyadeyi, who was killed last Friday by unknown gunmen. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olabisi Okuwobi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Ibadan that the police were making efforts at getting the culprits.

She expressed confidence that the gunmen would not go unpunished, explaining that the command was leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the assailants were brought to book.

“We are carrying out a thorough investigation into the matter and we are quite confident that the culprits would soon be arrested and brought to book.

“Oyo State has been enjoying relative peace in the last one year and we will not allow anybody to disrupt the peace we have toiled to put in place. We will put in our best to ensure that the gunmen do not go free,” Okuwobi said.

Oyadeyi, who as a former chairman of the Shooting Stars Supporters Club (3SC), served as permanent secretary in various ministries in the state since 2000 up till last year.

He was said to have been shot dead at his filling station located opposite Alegongo Primary School in Akobo area of Ibadan. The two killers were said to have gone to the filling station on a motorcycle at the close of the day’s business.

One of them, who alighted from the motorcycle, was said to have gone straight to Oyadeyi and shot him dead. Okuwobi explained that the gunmen later dispossessed the station attendants of N250,000, adding that “before policemen from the Akobo Police Station could reach the scene of the incident, the robbers had taken to their heels.”
