House confirms Elelu Habib as Kwara CJ

Yekini Jimoh, Ilorin - 24.03.2008

THE Kwara State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Justice Raliat Elelu-Habib as the chief judge of the state. This is just as it approved the appointment of three nominees whose names were submitted by the governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki, as commissioners.

With this development, Justice Elelu-Habib becomes the first female chief judge in the state. Governor Saraki had, last week, in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Saka Onimago, submitted the names of the three nominees to the House for confirmation as commissioners.

The nominees are Mrs. Caroline Ajunwon (Isin Local Government Area), Dr. Abubakar Adebayo Isola ( Ilorin-West Local Government Area) and Mr. Sidiq Abdulmumin (Moro Local GovernmentArea). In an interview with newsmen, the Speaker of the House, Honourable Issa Bio Ibrahim, said the confirmation of the commissioners was in line with the lawmakers’ constitutional responsibility to the people of the state.

He said sections 27(1) and 192(2) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the House to screen and confirm the nominees, were followed. Ibrahim advised the new appointees to be up and doing and work towards actualising the goals of the present administration to bring a new lease of life to the people of the state.
