Rainstorm wreaks havoc in Osun - 50 houses blown off

About 50 houses were blown off by rainstorm in Osun State . The houses included private and public buildings spread across some towns in the state. The mostly towns in the state were Tonkere in Ife-South and Iba in Ifelodun local government areas.

At Iba in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State , over 45 houses were affected while about ten other were blown off in Tonkere in Ife-South Local Government Area of the state.

Besides, the walls of the Community Grammar School, Tonkere collapsed and disrupted academic activities in the school. Areas mostly affected by the rainstorm in Iba were Ile-Akesin, Oke Paadi, Ile-Aaro Afin, Ile-ObaOke, Ile Obalowo, Ile-Aiku and Ile-Alala.

The monarch of the town, the Eburu of Iba, Oba Buraimoh Bamigbade, expressed shock over the incident. He said the incident had brought hardship on his subjects, calling on the state government to come to the aid of the people of the community with a view of providing relief materials to alleviate the suffering of the people.

Mr Jide Efuniyi, a community leader from Tonkere said the rainstorm has led to the collapse of the classroom of the public school and made it impossible for the students of the school to undergo their academic activities.

According to him, the students of the school were now facing difficult time as many of them were forced to undergo their academic activities at a nearby health centre.
