Ohakim raises alarm on plans to assassinate him

GOVERNOR Ikedi Ohakim of Imo on Saturday raised an alarm on plans by some individuals to assassinate him.

Ohakim, in a radio and television broadcast in Owerri, alerted the public that there were plans by "some devilish people'' to also kidnap some prominent government officials and politicians in the state.

He also said that there were threats by some people to burn down some public offices and monumental buildings in Owerri municipality.

The governor alleged that a group of politicians who were opposed to his government had flooded Imo with thugs, militants and other miscreants from neighbouring states to carry out their nefarious activities.

According to the him, the hoodlums who were recruited for the dangerous act, have concluded plans to use a proposed rally scheduled to hold in a hotel premises in Owerri to execute the act.

He said that security reports revealed that they planned to destroy street lights along some major roads in Owerri to create confusion and panic.
