Beijing 2008: Falcons keep winning

23.07.2008

Nigeria's Super Falcons continued their buildup to next month's Olympic Games with another win in a tune-up game against a local club side in Korea on Tuesday.

Rita Chikwelu converted a penalty after half an hour to give Jossy Lad's girls victory in a close encounter, and the coach told KickOffNigeria.com that he was pleased with the overall display.
"We played one of their top clubs that have nine of their national team players and coached by their national team coach," he said. "We wanted to see hard work and team play and the girls showed us a bit of that."

The coach did not seem completely satisfied, as he pointed out that there was still work to be done. "Definitely, there are some areas to be corrected. We are not yet playing very well as a team because we have not played any competitive match since our match against the Black Queens of Ghana, so we have to continue working to get together as a team."

But he insisted that his wards were strong enough to handle a tough group that includes Brazil and Germany. "I have been saying it for a while that we don’t fear any team. I have a team that can match them. For instance, I have some regular players who did not play today and we still won. By the time we line up with a full team, we will be better."
