Ciroma Committee Intervenes In Oyo PDP Congress Crisis

THERE are strong indications that the disagreement over the recently held ward congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State may have attracted the attention of the Adamu Ciroma-led National Convention Committee.

Saturday Tribune gathered that some stakeholders within the party had written a protest letter to the national headquarters of the party and the President over what it called the “ridiculous and contemptuous” imposition of candidates.

According to the protest letter, which was signed by Chief Richard Akinjide, Chief Yekini Adeojo, Dr. Victor Olunloyo, Sen. Lekan Balogun, Elder Wole Oyelese and Chief Abayomi Akintola, the national leadership of the party was also informed of the readiness of some stakeholders in the party to not only reject the congress results but to also plan genuine congresses in the state.

“Any congress result brought by Alhaji Adedibu should be rejected by the National convention committtee if not approved by all the stakeholders of the party,” it also stated.

The group, who also called for the cooperation of the police command, wondered how Chief Lamidi Adedibu, who was said to have joined the party form the then All Peoples Party (APP) without a councillor, now be the one lording it over those whom welcomed him to the party.

While also condemning how the “results” of the congresses were known two weeks before the scheduled date, the group resolved to “resist existing anti-democratic, anti-social and self-serving tendencies that have fettered the wheels of our progress.”
