The Hiding Place (12)

(Continued from last week)

David is saying here that he knows that the angel of the Lord surrounds those that fear the
Almighty God to deliver them from any kind of evil. He says if you do not believe him, why not taste the Lord and discover for yourself that the Lord is good. There is a very good example in a story in 2 Kings 6:15-17. Here is security, you will never fear again. This is why Jesus Christ said you should not let your heart be troubled (Matthew 24:6).

Why would God go to this extent to give us a tight security? One, we are very precious to Him. He loves us. In fact, the Bible says the reason why we are more than conquerors is because God loves us. The second reason is to encourage us to stay with Him. Three is to tell those who are outside that they are missing something. Psalm 125:1-3 says:

“They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed but abideth for ever. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever. For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.”

The Almighty God is saying here that He is protecting us so that the wicked will not overcome us and that we will not become discouraged and begin to try sin. The implication here is that as long as you stay with the Almighty God, you do not have to worry about the wicked. If you are on the side of the Lord, please do not forget that there is danger outside, so do not go out. If the Almighty God has been kind enough to bring you into His kingdom, please stay in that kingdom. Out there, there is trouble. Take heed lest you fall.

If you are born again, you should be able to say, like Paul said in his letter to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:18:

“And the Lord shall deliver me from every work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” If you are not born again, I appeal to you to go to Him and tell Him that you want to be His child.

Psalm 91 :13-14:
“Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. “

What does trample mean? Talking of trampling, people trample (or walk on) green grass; and then suddenly, people create a path along it. They do this by walking on it everyday. Very soon, the grass will die and the land will appear. Provided they continue to walk on it, no grass will ever grow there again.

There are many of us who have difficulties in our lives and they persist because we trample on them just for some time; and just as the problem is about to vanish, we stop trampling. Keep trampling on the problems and they will disappear and will never rise again.
God is asking us to trample on the lion, the dragon and the adder. All these are referring to the devil and his agents like sickness, sorrow and difficulties. We are to keep on rebuking him in the name of Jesus.

The Almighty God said that we should defeat all lions and all serpents. These two animals are different in various ways; so we will consider them separately. However, what is clear is that both the lion and the serpent are creatures of God and He has made man lord over them all. Genesis 1:26 confirms this:

“And God said Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”

All these animals are actually under our feet, according to Psalm 8: 6-8:

”Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beast of the field; the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.“

God has given us enough wisdom to tame every animal in this world. In James 3:7, the Bible says:

”For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:”

Everything that the devil can be compared to are under our feet and can be tamed. Satan and his agents are under our feet.

The lion is the king of animals. The lion is strong and bold. In fact, the Bible says in Proverbs 28:1 that the righteous is as bold as the lion:

"The wicked flee when no man pursues: but the righteous are bold as a lion."

This shows that the Almighty God recognises the boldness of the lion. The lion is bold because there is nobody for him to fear. He is ready to tear any animal that attacks him into pieces. As a matter of fact, whenever the lion wants to kill, he announces his intention to the victim. The more he roars, the more the victim knows that death is near. The lion attacks from above and kills by force.

What does the lion represent spiritually? The lion represents those who by their positions and power can attack you directly and openly. An example is your boss who says you will not be promoted as long as he remains your boss. It could be your father, mother, husband, wife or anybody who wants to attack you because they have power and authority over you. If you are born again, all these people are under you. You have authority over them. There is no power that you cannot face once Jesus Christ is by your side.

Effecting The Change You Desire (4)

Bishop David O Oyedepo

Last week, I shared with you one of the products of zeal; which is dedication. It is a major requirement in life, if you must make maximum progress this year. As I conclude this series this week, I will teach on the place of direction, if you must effect the change you desire and soar on the eagle’s wings.

Having a vision is one thing; knowing the way to attain it is something else. Direction is a major prerequisite for success in life. You might have a vision, but if you are ignorant of the necessary steps for achieving it, you end up in a ditch. This new year, you won’t end up in a ditch! You are marching forward! You are to fly on the eagle’s wings!

When God gives you a task, He will also reveal to you the way to go about it. Direction is knowing the right way to attain a vision. It’s knowing the right step to take. Knowing the way is the only means of getting to your destination and effecting the change you desire. Whoever will not follow God’s direction won’t arrive at his destination. He or she won’t be able to effect the change he or she desires in life this new year.

God’s Word says: For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God (Romans 8:19). Those who are led by God are the sons of God. You only retain your sonship when you allow yourself to be led by God. You need direction for each step you take in effecting the change you desire this new year. God is willing to lead you (Isaiah 48:17). But are you willing to follow His direction? Following God’s direction always leads to a sweatless triumph in life. You won’t regret doing so!

How to receive direction
By asking: There is nothing you can receive without asking for it. Receiving is a privilege reserved for those who ask (Matthew 7:7). No asking, no receiving! When you are confronted with situations or decisions, and you don’t know which way to go, ask God and He will tell you what to do.

By the Word: One of the ways by which God directs is through His Word. His Word is the truth; it can’t fail! There is a solution in the Word to every problem you might encounter in life. A discovery of your way out of that ugly situation depends on you. You have to do the searching to locate the way out.

Embark on a discovery of the ways of God in his Word. Make them your way and success will surely be yours. That is the way you can be guided by God, through His Word, to effect the changes you desire this new year. You won’t fail, in Jesus’ name!

By the Holy Spirit: Apart from the Word of God, the Holy Spirit (Spirit of God) is there to guide you. At new birth, you receive an ability to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Activate this by asking the Holy Spirit for instructions. The Bible says: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name (John 1:12). Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.

When you are so led, you are on the path to fulfilment. For instance, Jesus was totally dependent on God for direction (John 8:26, 28). He always listened for what steps to take before stepping out. When He was told that Lazarus had died, He didn’t go rushing off to his tomb. He listened for God’s instruction first and when He carried them out, the glory of God was revealed. That was why He was able to effect the change He desired, by raising Lazarus from the dead (John 11:1-44).

If you are a child of God, the Holy Spirit is there to lead you. He will tell you what to do and what not to do. He will tell you the right steps to take to effect the change you desire this new year. A lot of people seek direction through the advice of men. This is not wrong in itself. But the Word of God should prove every advice received. The Word puts the final seal on any advice you may receive. If what you have is not in accordance with the Word of God, drop it fast! You can’t afford to toy with your destiny!

God’s ways are ways of peace. When He is the One directing you, it will be accompanied by peace (Psalm 85:8).

Friend, God only leads his children. Are you a child of God? You become His child by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. That way, you are born again. If you are ready for it, please say this prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!
