Kidnapped SSG’s father: Police yet to establish contact

Alphonsus Agborh, Asaba - 22.07.2008

Twenty-four hours after the father of the Secretary to Delta State Government, Chief Arthur Okorie Okowa, was kidnapped, the police are yet to establish any contact with the abductors.

The state security council, which is apparently miffed by the kidnap saga, discussed security strategies in Asaba on Monday on ways of improving security network in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jacob Oshiomogho, told the Nigeria Tribune on Monday that the KIA car belonging to the chief which the kidnapper used was recovered along Agbor-Uromi road around Igbanke in Edo State.

According to him, it was too early to establish whether the motive of the kidnappers was political, adding that “the state command has spread its dragnet to neighbouring state.

Nigeria Tribune gathered that the kidnappers through telephone were said to be demanding an undisclosed amount of money from the family of Chief Okowa.
