INEC commences preparation for 2011 elections

INDEPENDENT National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kaduna State, Hassan Sulaiman, on Monday, said the commission had commenced preparations for the 2011 general elections.
Sulaiman, who said this in Makarfi during his visit to polling centres, added that the intention was to review the polling centres and other electoral processes for the 2011 general elections.
He said the necessary arrangement for the elections had commenced, pointing out that success could not be achieved without early consultations with stakeholders at the grassroots.
The commissioner said the commission was determined to conduct free and fair elections through the cooperation and support of local governments across the country.
“Sensitisation, mobilisation, awareness and enlightenment campaign have begun in order to put in place, smooth conduct of the national elections,” he said.
In his remarks, Alhaji Bala Gangara, the Chairman, Makarfi Local Government Area, said the council was set to embark on enlightenment campaign to educate the people of the area.
He said the council would join hands with the commission for the successful conduct of the 2011 general elections.
