Ibori’s wife spends second day in detention - Still can’t meet bail condition

Embattled Theresa Nkoyo Ibori, wife of the former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, who was arraigned on Monday in a London court on a four-count charge of money laundering under the British Acts, is yet to meet up with her bail requirements.

According to an agency report monitored on Wednesday, Mrs. Ibori remained in prison at the all-female Holloway Prison in the Borough of Islington as she waits to fulfill the conditions specified in her bail.

A Westminster Magistrate’s Court judge had on Tuesday set her bail at 250,000 pounds. Her Nigerian passport was also to be deposited with the court. These conditions were yet to be met by 5.00 p.m on Tuesday which made her to spend another night in jail while lawyers renewed efforts to fulfill the conditions yesterday.

According to Saharareporters, an online news agency, “she has to pay £250,000 either cash or in the form of landed properties in the United Kingdom worth same amount to finally secure her bail at least for now.

”She was also directed to drop her Nigerian passport with the court. The Judge of the Westminster Magistrate Court had on Monday remanded her in police custody at Westover Hill, Hampstead. Her lawyers were reported to be battling to meet up with the conditions of the bail with a hope of success today.”
