Uniport replaces VP’s certificates

22.05.2008

The authorities of University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday in Abuja, presented three new degree certificates to Vice President Goodluck Jonathan as replacement for the burnt ones.

The vice-president, who graduated from the university in 1977, lost his original certificates when his house was burnt by Niger Delta militants in 2007. Jonathan thanked the authorities of the university for the gesture, saying he was not expecting ‘brand new’ certificates, but rather their attestations.

He said he was worried about the certificates destroyed by the fire. ``I am delighted that some of them have been replaced and even laminated by the university,” he said.

He also thanked the university for honouring him with a Doctorate Degree of Science and pledged to continue to support the university in achieving its goals. The Vice Chancellor, represented by the Registrar, Dr. Mussiah Nwokocha, said the university's Senate did not find it difficult approving the vice presi-dent's request.

He thanked Jonathan for fostering partnership between the university and its alumni association.
