Family petitions IG over murder

Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Lagos - 21.08.2008

The family of the late Ashimu Adewole has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr. Mike Okiro, asking him to re-open the murder case of the deceased.

According to the petition, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Lagos on Wednesday and signed by the deceased’ brother and wife, the deceased, a commercial driver and member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), was murdered on September 6, 2000 in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

“His corpse was thrown into Lafenwa River after the murder. It took the combined efforts of fire brigade officers and local divers to have the corpse removed from the river,”it said.

Those charged with the murder had boasted that the deed had been done and there was nothing that could be done to them.

The family members said they were encouraged to seek a redress because of the commitment of the Federal Government to the rule of law and the disposition of the IG to ensuring that justice was done to every Nigerian.
