Saka Saula: Police place N5m on killers

THE Lagos State Police command has promised to reward anyone that gives information that would lead to the arrest of those behind the killing of Alhaji Saka Saula.

Saula was the Lagos State chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), who was killed in front of his house by yet to be identified gunmen last week.

The Lagos State Police Commissioner of Police (CP), Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, at a meeting with members of the union at the police command, Lagos, told journalists that the police authority was very interested in getting to the root of the killing, hence the reward.

He lamented that members of the union had not been forthcoming in relating necessary information to the police which could lead to the arrest of the killers.

The Commissioner of Police also warned that his command would not tolerate any act of indiscipline among members of the union, while also condemning what he termed lack of respect for the death of the late union boss.

“It is very unfortunate that your leader died and the next thing we saw was disturbances by people trying to take over garages. You don’t have respect for the dead,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Lagos state government has also promised to deal ruthlessly with any members of the union that foment trouble. Sunday Tribune gathered that the state governor was unhappy with the catalogue of violence that erupted in Lagos following the death of Alhaji Saka Saula.

As a punitive measure, the state government has threatened to take over any motor park where there is violence.
