Osunbor tackles Ugbesia over comment on 2011 gov race

Uchechukwu Olisah, Benin City - 19.03.2008

Edo State governor, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, on Tuesday took a swipe at the member representing Edo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Odion Ugbesia, over the latter’s comment that he would challenge the governor for the governorship seat in 2011 if he did not perform.

Governor Osunbor, who spoke when a group of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members from the three senatorial districts during the state under the aegis of the Edo for Excellency paid him a solidarity visit at Government House, said Senator Ugbesia was the “least most unqualified person to challenge him for the governorship position in 2011.

Osunbor was reacting to a statement made by Senator Ugbesia during a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) factional meeting a few weeks ago at Saidi Centre in Benin City , the state capital, in which Ugbesia said he would challenge the governor if he failed in performance.

“I thank God that we are making progress in this state and with the support of our people we will do more. There is still a lot to be done and we will continue to record successes and achievements.

“That is why I laughed when some body went some where to say he will challenge me if I do not perform. I am not use to reacting to those kinds of statements but I believe I should make one today,” he said.
