Police ban rallies, campaigns in Ondo - Ahead Appeal Court ruling on gov poll

Yinka Oladoyinbo, Akure - 19.02.2009

The police in Ondo State have banned rallies and campaigns ahead of the ruling of the Court of Appeal on the governorship election in the state.

They also warned members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycles Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACCOMORAN) in the state against violence.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Charles Dawodu, disclosed this in Akure during a meeting with the leaders of the associations.

According to him, the command had observed that some people were going around to campaign in markets and other public places, making statements that could spark off violence.

“The command hereby warns against any form of gathering or meeting in any public place that can spark off violence in any part of the state, as anyone caught in that regard will be dealt with,” he said.
