AD commends Afenifere’s reconciliatory moves

The Alliance for Democracy (AD) has lauded the reconciliation move between members of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, which was initiated by Chief (Mrs.) H. I. D. Awolowo, describing it as “a welcome development.”

The party, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Popoola Ajayi, said the efforts of the matriach of Awolowo family to unite the Awoists were applauded.

The statement said the many years of bickering among the leadership of the organisation had stalled the development of ideological and progressive politics in the country.

The party, therefore, advised that the group must choose its platform based on the ideals of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

“It is a welcome development that efforts are ongoing to return Afenifere to Ikenne. Chief Awolowo predicted the coming together of all progressive forces on a political platform to actualise the emancipation of Nigerians,” AD said.

The party warned that in rebuilding the new foundation, all the mistakes of the past must be avoided for the new political structure to stand the test of time.
