Obafemi unsure of Yak partnership

NIGERIAN striker, Obafemi Martins says he is not sure he can form a formidable partnership with Yakubu Aiyegbeni in the national team.

When both players are on parade, Nigeria hardly scores and when the Newcastle forward was asked to explain the puzzle, he told sportswriters in Accra: “I don’t know if Yakubu and I can play together but it is left to the coaches to pick the players to play and ours is to ensure that we win games for the country.”

On his failure to hit target for Nigeria at just concluded Nations Cup in Ghana, Obafemi said it was a disappointment adding that it was not always every time that a striker will have a successful tournament.

The former Inter of Italy striker hopes to find his scoring form at Newcastle to erase the sad memory of Ghana 2008.

“I need to look forward and start to score goals for my club to impress the new manager. I’ve had a word with Keegan and I’m motivated by his attitude and his reputation in the game” said Obagol as he’s for fondly called.

Obafemi had played two games in Nigeria’s campaign at Ghana 2008, scoring no goal until injury cut short his participation.
