Oyo govt bans quack doctors, auxilliary nurses

OYO State govern- ment on Monday banned the use of quack doctors and auxillary nurses in all the hospitals in the state and set up a a special medical task-force to checkmate their operations. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babalola Owolabi, who announced this while speaking with journalists in Ibadan on Monday said a war had been declared on them to discourage the quack doctors and auxilliary nurses from killing innocent people.

The commissioner, who threatened to arrest and prosecute anyone found in quackery in the medical profession, added that “the full wrath of law would be enforced on such persons.” He also said the state government would seal-off the premises of “whosoever caught in the act to discourage others who are contemplating such act.

“The practice whereby some medical practitioners employ people who were not trained in the nursing profession, as auxiliary nurses is absurd and unprofessional and we will not allow them to be toying with the people of the state lives.”

“Auxiliary nurses should not be made to carry out assignments meant for those who had received formal training in nursing profession and the task-force will henceforth ask nurses in the private hospitals to show their identity cards. It is absolutely criminal to employ people and call them auxiliary nurse or midwife.”
