NGC takes vandalism campaign to oil-bearing communities

Sylvester Idowu, Warri - 18.07.2008

The Nigerian Gas Company (NGC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has taken its enlightenment campaign on pipeline vandalism to the oil-bearing communities.

The enlightenment campaign, initiated by the NGC, in collaboration with the Delta State government, is aimed at stemming vandalism of pipelines and other oil facilities in the state.

Addressing the people of Ugbokodo-Okpe community on Thursday, the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Voka Mukoro, said the exercise was aimed at building sustainable cordial relationship with the entire Ugbokodo-Okpe Kingdom in the state.

“The Nigerian Gas Company, being responsible for the transmission and marketing of natural gas and its derivatives within the domestic market and the West Africa sub-region, has always maintained harmonious relations with its host communities where its 1,500-kilometre pipeline network traverses,” he said.

The NGC boss charged the community members to take the activities of the company as their own and ensure their smooth operation and the safety of the gas pipelines in the community.

As part of its social responsibilities, he said NGC, early this year, provided skills acquisition materials and trained 16 youths of Ugbokodo-Okpe kingdom in four different areas.
