Police arrest 4 over attack on Uduaghan

The police in Delta State have arrested four suspected armed robbers who allegedly attacked the advanced party of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s motorcade three weeks ago near Oghara.
A policeman was killed in the attack.

The Commissioner of Police in ther state, Mr. Jacob Oshiomogho, told newsmen in Enerhen that efforts were on to arrest the rest of the suspects.

Oshiomogho explained that the robbers came onto the Oghara-Benin Expressway from the Ethiope River to attack a bullion van when the governor ran into them.

Oshiomogho also said the incidence of car snatching that put Asaba under siege had reduced with the arrest of five suspects. One of the suspects died during an encounter with the police, he said.

He attributed the success recorded to the partnership between the police and vigilance group which, he said, helped to check the activities of the “undesirable elements.” On the Uvwie crisis in which some four vehicles were burnt, the commissioner said that 15 persons had been arrested.

Oshiomogho urged the people of Uvwie to cooperate with the police by providing information on the troublemakers. He also commended the police command for its doggedness in minimising the rate of crime in the state, saying that Enerhen Police District recovered 16 vehicles snatched at various points in the state.
