Kanu delays new contract talks

NIGERIAN international Nwankwo Kanu is delaying new contract talks at Portsmouth.

The Daily Star Sunday reports that the Super Eagles captain is delaying signing a new deal with Pompey as he is uncertain over his first-team future there.

Kanu’s current contract with the Harry Redknapp side ends at the end of the current season but a clause in the contract stipulates that the Nigerian will get a year extension if he plays up to 25 matches this season.

The Nigerian forward had lamented last week that he was tired of sitting on the bench, saying that every player wanted to play every week.

“For me, every player who sits on the bench doesn’t enjoy it, you want to be out there playing and I am not different. You need time to make an impact but as a substitute it doesn’t happen. It can be annoying, especially in a game like this when we have more goals to score.

“I want to spend the rest of the season starting matches, not as a substitute,” Kanu told The Mirror.
