Unity, Falcons’ greatest weapon - George
18.02.2008
Super Falcons captain, Christy George
has attributed Saturday’s 1-0 victory away to Banyana Banyana of South Africa in an Olympic Games qualifier,to team unity in the squad.
George told brilafm.net that there was harmony between foreign-based and home-based players in the team, while describing everyone as level-headed and committed to the task of winning.
“The situation in our team is different from what applies in the other senior team. We heard about disunity among them, but with us, it’s a different kind of atmosphere.
“For the Falcons, I can tell you we are different. In this team, we are all united as one, be it foreign-based or home-based,” she declared.
George’s comments came on the heel of the team’s 1-0 victory on Saturday at Caledonian Stadium in Tshwane, South Africa.
The result means that the Falcons are one game away from qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and only need to beat the Black Queens of Ghana in their next match at home, mid-March, to qualify for the Games.
