By Saliu Gbadamosi - 18.02.2008

NIGERIA'S interim World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion, Samuel Peter, is poised to change the face of heavyweight boxing and take it once again to the people.

'The Nigerian Nightmare' last October 6 emerged interim champion after decisioning American Jameel 'Big Time' McCline in Nevada, America, after the then champion, Russian Oleg Maskaev pulled out of the bout, claiming injury to his hand while training for the fight.

The manager of the Nigerian boxer, Ivaylo Gotzev said the emergence of Peter at the world stage was the beginning of the return of glamour to the moribound heavyweight class, adding that the people did not know who the champion was before the Nigerian came on board.

"People don't know Oleg Maskaev is. It's hard to know who he is. He may be the WBC champion but people didn't know. Sam has made a statement and he's going to keep on making statements," the manager told BoxingScene.com.
