Senator begs PDP leaders over intra-party crisis

THE member repre senting Edo South District of Edo State in the Senate, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, at the weekend allegedly knelt down at a political gathering organised in Benin City residence of the Minister of Interior, General Godwin Abbe (rtd), pleading with the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to find a solution to the party’s internal crisis.

The fresh crisis rocking the PDP is connected with the political muscle flexing over who would emerge as the state chairman of the party congress scheduled for February 28

Senator Uzamere action’s was said to be a way of dispelling the insinuation that he was in the forefront of betraying the interests of his Benin people in Edo South by allegedly supporting Chief Dan Orbih, a chairmanship aspirant from the North Senatorial District who was being purportedly backed by Chief Tony Anenih.

According to Uzamere, “there must be unity because if we continue like this, we will continue to suffer. We, the South, made a big mistake in conceding the chairmanship to the North and now, we are complaining. We thought that Osunbor and Anenih are quarreling, they are not because they are pursuing the same Esan agenda. Honestly, this is a turbulence situation for me and we must come together and settle this matter.”

However, the Minister of Interior, who convened the meeting, and the member representing the state in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, called for a free and fair congress in the state.
