NUC reads Riot Act to varsities over delay of student’s results

THE National Universities Commission (NUC) has warned university authorities in the country against unnecessary delay in the release of students’ results.

Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Julius Okojie, handed down this warning on Wednesday night while presenting letter of recognition of University of Education, Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State, to the state governor, Mr. Olusegun Oni, at the NUC headquarters, Abuja.

Okojie noted that it had come to the knowledge of the commission that some universities, two years after graduation of students, could not release their results.

He said it was particularly worrisome that such candidates were denied opportunity to be mobilised alongside their colleagues from other schools for the one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The NUC boss said the commission would no longer tolerate that and vowed to sanction any university found wanton in this regard.

Okojie attributed some of this problem of delay in the release of results to proliferation of courses that the universities could not manage, sandwich programme linkages and affiliations.

He, therefore, advised universities in the country to take only the courses they know the school can manage effectively.
