Police arraign fake policewoman, kidnapper

THE police in Kwara State have arraigned a fake policewoman before an Ilorin magistrate’s court. The woman, Esther David, was arraigned on a one-count charge of impersonation and unlawful possession of police uniform contrary to Section 132 and 319 of the Penal Code.

The police First Information Report said the woman was arrested on December 31, 2007 by one Corporal Janet Odofin attached to the 15 Police Mobile Force, Ilorin, and was handed over to the authorities.

According to the report, the accused often paraded herself as a corporal working at Wuse in Niger State but during interrogation, the woman could not give a satisfactory answer on how she procured the police uniform with a corporal’s rank.

The court, presided over by Magistrate S.O.Sanusi, sentenced her to pay N1,000.fine. Also, a female teacher, who allegedly kidnapped one-year-old baby girl at a birthday party, has been arraigned before an Ilorin magistrate’s court.

The woman, Titilayo Alabi, of Offa Garage area, Ilorin, appeared before the court on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and kidnapping.

According to the police First Information Report, the accused allegedly kidnapped one Victoria Ajileye at a birthday party held at the residence of Professor Olu Obafemi of the University of Ilorin at No.8, Odeyemi Street, Ilesanmi Tanke, Ilorin.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Jimoh Kareem, urged the court not to release the accused on bail since she denied the allegation and to enable the police conclude their investigations on the matter.

The judge, Mr. Gambari A.A, ordered the accused to be kept in the Federal Prison, Ilorin, until January 31 when the case would come up for hearing.
