Kotoko Earns $150,000 Gatetakings - CAF Cup

Asante Kotoko of Kumasi, Ghana, earned a revenue of more than $150,000 from gate takings in their first match against Dolphins of Port Harcourt in a CAF Confederation Cup match.

The club’s Communications Director, Kwame Baah, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Accra that on the first day of its match against Dolphins on Sunday, the club made $150,000 from the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The match was, however, postponed due to the rain. He said that the club could have made more money in replay on Monday because gatetakings at the 40,000-capacity stadium was reduced from four Ghanaian cedi to two cedi for the popular side while the VIP and covered stand were also reduced.

“We recorded more spectators during the replay of the match due to reduced cost of tickets and this attracted so many people,'' he said.

He said that the Ghanaian cedi was now at par with the American dollar and whatever was realised was same as its equivalence in dollars. He regretted the manhandling of Dolphins' camera man, Idah Confidence by unknown persons at the stadium during the replay of the match.
