TMG Urges Nigerians To Show Interest In Electoral Reforms Process

THE Transition Monitoring Group, TMG, has called on Nigerians to take active part in the ongoing public hearing organised by the Electoral Reforms Committee.

A statement signed by the TMG National Chairman, Mr. Mashood Erubami, noted that the public hearing was the popular space created for Nigerian politicians, professional groups and the Civil Society Organisations to make input into the ongoing electoral reforms process towards clearing all obstacles ahead of the 2011 general elections .

He said the current low turnout being experienced at the public hearing exemplified by the absence of notable politicians, civil society leaders and other stakeholders was not good enough.

“We all need to note that the public hearing is an avenue to register our genuine protests either against non-inclusion in the works of the committee as claimed by some politicians or against the expressed sit- tightism of the ruling party which had stated its intention to rule for life, even when those making the statement cannot live for life.

“The most appropriate avenue for re-stating our zero tolerance for election rigging, malpractices, irregularities and violence is the public hearing, which provides further opportunities for members of the public and stakeholders in the electoral process.”
