Amaechi seeks permanent solutions to Port Harcourt city

Even if it would take sometime to fi nally sort the problems of growth in the Port Harcourt metropolis, the State Governor, Hon Chibuke Rotimi Amaechi, said that he was ready to give the oil city a rebirth.

Governor Amaechi, who stated this on Saturday while receiving the report of the Committee on the Development of Greater Port Harcourt at Government House, said that Port Harcourt is ripe for restructuring.

According to the Governor, “I am prepared to go slowly, if we will have a permanent solution to our problems, and not just because I want to be popular for people to clap hands, and after one week the road fails”, Governor Amaechi said.

He said the present administration would not go into taking hasty decision in trying to impress people, but expressed optimism that his administration was determined to develop the state.

Hon Amaechi lauded the committee members, comprising professionals in Engineering, Town Planning, Architecture, Environment and Surveying, for providing their services free to the state. Amaechi said that the people remain grateful to them and promised that the report would be studied carefully before implementation to ensure the development of a greater Port Harcourt.

He noted that the master plan on the Port Harcourt drainage has been designed, but it requires interpretation before commencement of work. Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee and the Deputy Governor of the State, Engr.

Tele Ikuru, said that the uncontrollable traffic congestion, and the perennial flood problem of the city, lend credence to the need to restructure Port Harcourt.
