Alake sacks Lawson, Iyalode Egba

The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, on Wednesday in Abeokuta announced the immediate removal of the Iyalode of Egbaland, Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Lawson, from office over an allegation of unruly behaviours.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Lisa of Egba,Chief Bisi MacGregor, and made available to newsmen. The statement indicated that Chief (Mrs.) Lawson, who was appointed by the late Alake of Egbaland, Oba Oyebade Lipede, had been suspended for over 35 months.

Chief (Mrs.) Lawson was the fourth Iyalode of Egbaland following the death of the mother of the Osile of Oke Ona Egba, Chief (Mrs) Bisoye Tejuoso, who was murdered by gunmen September 19, 1996.

The office of the exalted position of Iyalode, according to Oba Gbadebo, was meant for role models and the epitome of the best in Egba womanhood.

Attempt to speak with Chief (Mrs.) Lawson proved abortive as sources close to her told the Nigerian Tribune that she had travelled to Liberia and would not be back until the end of the month.
