PDP boss blames Obanikoro for Lagos PDP crisis
Adewale Ajayi, Lagos - 17.01.2008
Lagos State chairman
of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Adebayo Williams, has blamed the party’s governorship candidate in last general election, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro , for the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune in his office in Lagos, Williams said since he became the chairman of the party, he had made efforts to reconcile aggrieved members of the party.
He said he even went to the extent of visiting each of them, including Senator Obanikoro, in order to mend fences and move the party forward.
He explained that a reconciliation committee was set up for the aggrieved members to table their grievances so that they could be resolved in the interest of the party. “But the move was frustrated by Obanikoro and his supporters who attended the meeting for a while only to back out without giving any reason.”
Chief Williams maintained that rather than Obanikoro and his supporters to cooperate with him to make the reconciliation meeting work , they resorted to calling him names and that he was doing the bidding of the party‘s Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George and that they never believed in the reconciliation move.
