Witness tells court how Omojola was killed

DETAILS of how late Mr. Tunde Omojola, who was murdered at the Ifaki Ekiti bye-election on May 28, 2005, were on Thursday revealed at an Ado Ekiti High Court presided over by Justice Ayodeji Daramola.

Standing trial in the case are Chief Dayo Okondo; former Personal Assistant to ex-Governor Ayo Fayose, Goke Olatunji; former Chairman, Ido/Osi Local Government Area, Thaddaeus Aina and another Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Samuel Dada.

The prosecution counsel was Mr. Rotimi Jacobs while Mr. Bamidele Omotoso was counsel for the first and third accused persons, while Mr. Ahmed Tafa was counsel for the second accused person and Mr. Maxim Oruma represented the fourth accused person.

Mounting the witness box and led in evidence by Jacobs, former state secretary of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Mr. Olufemi Olajobi, told the court how late Omojola was beaten to death in the presence of former Governor Ayo Fayose, who was invited to Ifaki by one of his aides standing trial in the murder case, Chief Okondo.

According to him, those who also witnessed the killing of Omojola, apart from Okondo and Fayose, were former chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Akin Olayisade; a present commissioner in the State Civil Service Commission, Chief Bodunde Daramola and the 16 former council chairmen in the state.
