CPN seeks govt support to fight quackery

The Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, CPN has enlisted the support of the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Education to fight the menace of unlicensed Information Technology, IT institutions in the country.

Speaking in Abuja yesterday at the inauguration of the 8th council of the body, President and Chairman of the Council of CPN, Dr. Mrs Adenike Osofisan identified problems created by unregistered and mushroom computer training schools as one that is capable of derailing government’s vision for technology growth if not checked.

Explaining that some of these schools have gone beyond awarding certificates and diplomas to awarding degrees, she pointed out that government need to make firm commitment to the efforts of CPN to ensure that their activities are discontinued forthwith.

Corroborating Osofisan, Registrar, CEO of CPN, Mr Sikiru Shehu said the trend is a disaster waiting to happen and listed efforts of the council to ensure quality IT education foundation for Nigerian youths to include collaboration with other bodies such as the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, National Universities Commission NUC and the National Commission for Colleges of Education NCCE.
