APGA Chairman Alleges Threat To Life

Okodili Ndidi, Onitsha - 15.12.2007

The Anambra State Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr. Okey Umeano, has alleged threat to his life and that of his family members.

Owing to this, the Anambra State Police Command is now interrogating some leaders of Onitsha Federal Housing Estate vigilante for their alleged involvement in the threat.

This followed Umeano’s petition to the state Commissioner of Police, alleging that Messrs Christopher Mbaegbu (a.k.a. Ogbatulenyi), Egbonu (a.k.a. Okili), Celestine Okafor (a.k.a. Alusi Agulu) and one Barrister Ike had conspired against him on the night of December 3 this year to threaten his life, that of his family and those of his patients.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the state CID, Mr. Chris Ezike, was not available to comment on the development.

But a senior officer who preferred anonymity, said the suspects were invited to the state CID by the commissioner of police.

In the two-page petition entitled, “Re: Further Threat To My Life And The Lives Of My Family Members, Including My Patients,” Umeano, who is also the Medical Director of Umeano Hospital and Maternity, said since December 3, the suspects, through their revenue agent, Ezenwata Mnama, had illegally used a Peugeot 504 station wagon to block the entrance to his residence at 11, St. Stephens Street, Federal Housing Estate, Onitsha, which also housed his hospital.
