Delta Keeps Mum Over Ibori’s Ordeal

Delta State Government has officially reacted to the prosecution of the former Governor, Chief James Ibori, saying it would not comment on an issue that was already before the court.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Omah Djebbah, who spoke to journalists after an extra-ordinary State Executive Council meeting in Asaba, the state capital, which ended about 8 pm on Thursday, declined to answer any question relating to the Ibori matter.

Djebbah said, however, that government activities in the state were going on smoothly, dismissing insinuations that some persons were planning to stage a protest.

The commissioner said the SEC approved the appointment of Prof. Chukwuka Okonjo as the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the government also approved an Improved Urban Mass Transit scheme to ensure quality and affordable transport system.

The scheme, he said, would involve the purchase of 170 Toyota cars at a cost of N699 million.

Djebbah disclosed that the government had decided to centralise the management of its Information and Communication Technology, (ICT) facilities.

To this end, the facilities being managed before now by various ministries are now to be centrally managed by the Directorate of Science and Technology.
