Medical Director Faults Sack By Commissioner

John Ogbedu, Port Harcourt - 15.12.2007

The immediate past Medical Director of the Rivers State Government-owned Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital (BMSH), Port Harcourt, Dr. Captain Solo-Major, whose tenure in office ended last month, has refuted claims by the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, that he (Solo-Major) has been sacked from office by the state government.

During his inspection of the BMSH premises on Tuesday this week, Parker, in company with other top officials of his ministry, announced the sack of Solo-Major and his replacement by Dr. Bernard Akprioku.

However, in a swift reaction, Solo-Major has petitioned the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Magnus Abe, complaining about the language used by Parker concerning his movement from BMSH.

He said his movement was a normal civil service deployment as his tenure ended in November 2007.

The former medical director, whose working experience spans 22 years, then implored the SSG to use his good offices to ask Parker to retract his statement.

Though Parker was said to be out of his office on Friday when Saturday Tribune called to seek his views on the matter, it was, however, learnt that Akprioku has since assumed duties.
