Militants hijack ship in Delta

Sylvester Idowu, Warri - 15.05.2009

Militants from Camp 5 in Delta State, on Thursday, hijacked a tanker MV Spirit, chartered by the Nigerian National petroleum Company (NNPC) at Chanomi Creek in Warri South-West Local Government Area, while sailing to Warri to discharge condensate.

A cargo Ship which was also sailing to Warri, was equally hijacked by the a militants at the Chanomi Creek at the same spot, where they clashed with operatives of the Joint Task Force last Wednesday.

The two incidents, according to Nigerian Tribune investigations, were in retaliation against the killing of some of their men during last Wednesday bloody clash with the JTF men.

The hijack was however, against the move made by some prominent leaders who were pleading for a return of peace to the state.
