Ekiti rerun: PDP calls for full investigation into arrest of INEC staff
Dapo Falade, Ado-ekiti - 15.05.2009
The Ekiti state
chapter of the
Peoples Democartic Party (PDP) has called on the police authorities to disclose the full story surrounding the alleged arrest of an administrative secretary of the Indepenent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, over an alleged bribery in the just concluded governorship rerun in the state.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, the PDP State Chairman, Mr. Bola Olu-Ojo, in his reaction to the ongoing police investigation on some INEC staff, said the party was aware that attempts were being made by the Action Congress (AC) to divert attention from the case by making wild allegations against the PDP.
“We are aware of the arrest by the police of one administrative secretary in charge of the INEC, FCT, over allegation of being the arrowhead in the bribery of the INEC officials by the AC leader and a former governor. It was a clear attempt to cover up this scandal that the AC has now slanted the story in a section of the media to a phantom bribery scandal and linked it to a non- existent lawmaker.”
