NIPP approves N15bn for power projects

IN its determined efforts to realise the targeted 6000mw of electricity this year, the National Independent Power Project (NIPP) Steering Council, chaired by Vice President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday approved contracts worth N15 billion for the supply of injector transformers.

In addition, the council also approved the payment to complete the installation of the 33KV double circuit line for power supply to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja .

These decisions were made known to newsmen after the meeting by Governor Namadi Sambo of Kaduna State, who also disclosed that the steering committee set up four groups to inspect the various NIPP sites.

The governor, who briefed reporters after the meeting which held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja said the committee appreciated government’s efforts to meet the demands of the workforce in the power sector who were agitating for better pay.

According to him, the N15 billion contracts included the supply of 2.5MVA injection transformers (19 units), 7.5 MVA injection transformers (209), 15.0MVA injection transformers (155), 11KV indoor switchgear (190), 33KV switchgear (122), 33KV instrument transformer (173) and 33KV control/relay panel (295).

He spoke about the airport project, saying “the project consultant and the NIPP officials, including the FCDA officials, have been inspecting the job and have certified the job satisfactorily completed.”

The governor also spoke on the problem of distribution and transmission of generated electricity disclosing that “the designs have been done, contracts have been awarded and we are putting infrastructure to ensure we have not only gas but the proper processed dry gas that will allow for the proper use of these equipment.
