FG sets up police reform implementation committee

THE Federal Government is set to inaugurate 14-member committee to drive the implementation process of the reform of the Nigeria Police.

The inauguration is scheduled for Thursday, April 23. The committee, which will be chaired by Minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Yakubu Lame, is to coordinate the implementation of the 125 recommendations for immediate implementation of the government’s white paper on police reforms, as derived from the report of the M.D. Yusuf-led committee.

It also has the mandate of setting up and monitoring appropriate sub-committees to handle such aspects of the reform as training and capacity building, equipment and logistics and welfare and administration.

It is expected that the committee, which will also serve as a liaison between the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police to harmonise the implementation programme, would establish deadlines for the various activities and aspects of the reform.
