I’ll return to office - Wamakko

Former governor of Sokoto State, Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has said that he is optimistic of returning to office in the impending repeated governorship election.

Wamakko was sacked on April 11 after an Appeal Court in Kaduna upheld the petition of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) candidate that he was not properly nominated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the April 14, 2007 polls.

The Appeal Court also ordered fresh election on a date yet to be announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

Wamakko, while reacting to the verdict in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), expressed optimism that the Sokoto people would give him another chance.

“I think the people are satisfied with my modest contributions and want me back to continue from where I stopped,’’ he said.

He said the PDP government he headed in the last ten months was committed to improving the living standard of the common man.

Wamakko said he joined politics “to better the lots of the people,’’ and that he was determined to continue doing that.

He urged party supporters not to engage in any act capable of creating confusion in the state.

“As democrats, we should be seen to be promoting peace; we cannot afford to do anything that is unwholesome at this stage,’’ he said.
