NDLEA arrests drug baron, 2 others at Seme border - Seizes 14.27kg

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Seme border has arrested a suspected drug baron and two others for drug trafficking.

The 41-year-old business man, Umeh David Mark, the courier Obinna Udeagu and Thomas Ezeama who worked for Umeh are currently assisting the NDLEA over the unlawful importation of 1.814 kilogrammes of cocaine.

The suspected baron is being held by the NDLEA for conspiring with Obinna Charles Udeagu to import 1.814 kilogrammes of substance that tested positive for cocaine into the country through the Seme border.

Obinna Charles Udeagu, according to a statement from NDLEA and signed by Mr. Ofuyeju Mitchell, took off from Conakry in Guinea with the drug to Cotonou by flight and decided to enter the country by road at Seme border, Lagos State.

He was arrested on March 3, at the search ramp following the discovery of 600 grammes of cocaine in a false bottom of his bag.

While on observation at the NDLEA office, Charles excreted additional 60 wraps of cocaine he ingested weighing 1.214 kilogrammes bringing the total weight to 1.814 kilogrammes.

Investigation into the case revealed that he travelled to Guinea by road to buy the drug and took Air Guinea from Conakry to Cotonou.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Command of NDLEA has seized 14.27kg of Indian hemp in the first quarter of the year.

The Assistant Commander in charge of operations, Mr Fidel Cocodia, said in a statement on Monday in Enugu that 1.4kg was seized in January, 1.6kg in February and 3.27kg in March.
