Power probe c’ttee expresses disappointment on work in Ogun

MEMBERS of the House of Representatives Committee on Power and Steel probing the $16 billion power scam, on Monday, expressed disappointment on the level of work done so far on the Papalanto Power Plant in Ogun State.

The committee members, who visited the site, expressed shock that despite the fact that the contractor, SEPCO III, handling the phase two project at the plant, had been fully paid, the performance on site was not commensurate to the money paid.

The members, led by their chairman, Honourable Godwin Elumelu, had earlier paid a a visit to the state governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaja Salmot Badru, where he said the committee was not set up to witchhunt anybody.

“We have visited the South South, the South East, and we are now in the South West, to be precise Ogun State. We have come to see for ourselves some projects in the state claimed to have been completed or ongoing at the Olorunsogo Ewekoro Turbine Power Project.

The first phase of the Papalanto project was awarded at N7.8 billion while the second phase was awarded for N54.4 billion, but the contractor was overpaid to the tune of N54.8 billion.
