Politicians Charged on Service To The People

NIGERIANS at the helms of affairs in all tiers of government should embrace leadership as selfless service to the nation for a greater country.

Widow of the former governor of Ondo State, Deaconess Adetutu Adefarati, gave this charge during the week in Akungba Akoko during a chat with Saturday Tribune.

She decried the seeming attitude of Nigerians who see leadership as a means of feathering their nests, stressing that it is only God that can make one rich without sorrow.

She said service to the nation would promote the happiness of the greatest number of people, which would in turn give a clear conscience to such a leader.

Speaking further, she wondered about what had recently become of the values of service and integrity that the nation’s founding fathers laboured to entrench, considering the seeming alarming rate of moral decadence in the society today even in public offices.

On the demise of her husband, she expressed gratitude to God on what she described as a life of fulfilment that he led.

According to her, “the late Chief Adebayo Adefarati left a legacy worthy of emulation and I know the Ondo State people, Yoruba race, Nigerians in general and posterity will place his name whereever it is mentioned, in the right place of history.”
