PDP chairmanship: We’ve not endorsed any aspirant - NU

Idowu Samuel, Abuja - 15.02.2008

The Northern Union (NU) on Thursday said it would continue to embrace as many contestants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship race as possible, disclosing that time was not ripe yet for it to embrace any particular aspirant.

It said as a socio-political organisation, it was desirous of ensuring that the national convention of the PDP, now scheduled for March 8, produces credible leader who it said would nurture the nation’s democracy to a greater height.

The Northern Union made this known in a press statement signed by its National Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Lami, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja.

The union was reacting to a press statement being circulated in Abuja, which suggested that the union, led by Dr. Olusola Saraki, had endorsed a particular aspirant for the national convention.

According to the statement, some of the PDP chairmanship aspirants had been approaching the union for support and had been according each of them equal treatment in a manner that would not impair the confidence of the other aspirants in the union.
