NYSC sanctions 23 corps members in Ogun
Olayinka Olukoya, Abeokuta - 15.02.2008
TWENTY-THREE
corp members have
been asked to repeat the service year by the National Youth Service Corps Scheme(NYSC) in Ogun State.
The state coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Keziah Okonofua, disclosed this at the passing out parade of the Batch ‘A’ corps members deployed to the state.
She said the affected corps members absconded for the period of the programme and were, thereby, sanctioned by the governing council of the NYSC.
“The secretariat, in the course of monitoring and supervising, discovered some corps members who ran foul of the NYSC laws. These corps members were sanctioned in accordance with the enabling laws of the NYSC statutes.
“Hence, some of them will not be passing out today as their cases, ranging from absenteeism, abscondment and truancy, have been recommended to the NYSC national directorate for appropriate action,” she said.
The NYSC director confirmed to the Nigerian Tribune that the state governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel, had approved the relocation of the permanent site of the NYSC orientation camp from Sagamu to Ijebu-Ode.
She expressed regret that three corps members, one male, two females, lost their lives due to ill health during the course of the service year and prayed that such ugly incident would never occur again .
