15.02.2008

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Dimeji Bankole, has described the death of the frontline nationalist, Chief T.O.S. Benson, as a shock and “a brutal depletion of the club of icons of modern Nigeria nation.”

The Speaker, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, said the death of Chief Benson at this point in time was a monumental loss to the nation which he said was still on the verge of nationhood.

Specifically, he said Chief Benson was among the pioneering fathers of the modern Nigerian nation whose wealth of experience is still very relevant and paramount in our steady steps towards good governance and political stability”.

With the death of Chief T.O.S. Benson, we have lost yet another rare gem; a politician of robust skills and knowledge, and an administrator per excellence. Yet, his death has rubbed us all of a distinguished orator and an illustrious Nigerian, who is completely detribalized”, he said.

The statement urged Nigerian leaders to always put the interest of the electorates at heart by providing good leadership as this is the only way to sustain the labour of our heroes past as exemplified by the life and time of the late Chief T.O.S. Benson.

The Speaker on behalf of himself, family and other Honourable members of the House of Representatives commiserated with the family of the deceased and Nigerians in general.

He prayed God Almighty to give the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
He also prayed to God to grant the deceased an eternal rest in His bosom as T.O.S. Benson, had lived a live worthy of emulation.
